why'd you only call me when you're high - arctic monkeys
The video for Arctic Monkeys 'Why'd you only call me when you're high?' looks at the abuse of drugs and alcohol, and how they can affect people. The video features the band's lead singer Alex Turner who is texting a girl called Stephanie throughout the video as he makes her way to her house to meet her. Throughout the video we see the side effects of his drinking and drug use, and look at how his surroundings change as he moves from the pub to her house.
The opening to the video is set in a pub. Another song from the Arctic Monkey's album 'AM' plays in the background, which tells the audience that the band are succesful. They are well recognised and popular within the music industry.
We see a star image created for the band throughout the video. A common star image in the indie genre is the rebellious and bad boy image, which is demonstrated perfectly by the Arctic Monkeys. We see the bad boy image through the costume, which features slick, gelled hair and a leather jacket. Stereotypically, this is a retro bad boy look.
Star image is also shown through the mise-en-scene.
